The true impact of slow broadband speeds – let’s get Somerset connected…

Yesterday the Guardian Small Business page published a wonderful infographic showing the impact of slower broadband speeds on business around the world and it made very interesting reading. 95% of the UK is due to be connected to ‘superfast’ broadband by 2017, but here in the South West we are well aware that internet speeds have been causing problems for small businesses for some time.

The pictorial representation of speed, location and impact makes it clear that where over 90% of businesses located in urban areas can benefit from superfast broadband, just 50% of rural businesses have that advantage, and even those in business parks are less able to access superfast.

So it is important to ensure we continue to lobby for significant improvement in broadband speed, especially as the infographic makes it clear that billions of pounds worth of annual revenue could be dependent upon it.
