New Enterprise Centre for Wiveliscombe

WiveyGreat news for Wiveliscombe this week, as the County and Borough Councils confirmed that the capital funds are now in place to buy a plot of land on which to build a new enterprise centre for the town.

Local businesses worked with Taunton Deane and Somerset County Council to develop the case for the centre which will be constructed at Sandy’s Moor. Years of planning have come to fruition, and it is hoped that the new centre will address the chronic shortage of spaces for businesses in the town and the area it serves. The hope is around thirteen businesses can be located in the building, which is added to a growing list of similar centres in the county – in Frome, Dulverton, Minehead, Wheddon Cross and Highbridge, employing more than 100 people in total. All the centres are owned by Somerset County Council and managed by South West Business Centres.

The enterprise centres offer special benefits to businesses who take space, including competitive rents and flexible tenancy arrangements, and as the first such centre in Taunton Deane will offer rural businesses the opportunity to expand.

No dates have been set for the start of the build, but we will be keeping a close eye on how this proceeds. Many start ups and small businesses we work with need to find additional or specialist space to ensure their success, and Wiveliscombe has a particularly vibrant business community.
