If you are an experienced business person who wants to use that experience to ‘give something back’ to the community by helping a young business to get started and / or to grow, then business mentoring can be both interesting and enormously rewarding.
Cornerstone mentors come from a broad range of business backgrounds. Some have successfully managed and grown small businesses. Others have served specialist functions in large corporations. Some are retired, others are full-time business managers.
The essence of business mentoring is simply to provide the entrepreneur with an opportunity, and a stimulus, to reflect on his / her business with the help of an independent, experienced business person. Cornerstone mentors may find themselves assisting a novel type of business quite unfamiliar to them. However all businesses operate on the same basic principles, and a good business mentor should always be able to apply these common principles.
The amount of time taken up by business mentoring can be as little as several hours per month, or more depending on the wishes of the mentor. Training is available for new mentors, which can be done online, or through a 1-day training course organised by Cornerstone.
If you have experience of successfully growing a business and would be interested in giving your time voluntarily to assist fledgling companies in the area, Cornerstone would like to hear from you. In addition to general business managers, Cornerstone also needs business persons who have specialist business skills and experience in such areas as marketing, finance, legal and contractual, or Information Technology.
