The new Hinkley Point C Community Fund launch is launched this month (November 2017) and with the new HPC Community Fund administered by Somerset Community Foundation and the existing Community Impact Mitigation Fund administered by West Somerset Council, there is now £15million available for communities affected by the Hinkley Point C development or its associated projects. Applications can also be made by those keen to make the most of the opportunities offered by the project.
The proposed project must be for the benefit of one or more communities in Somerset experiencing ‘residual and intangible impacts’ as a result of the construction of Hinkley Point C.
It may be designed to ‘remove or reduce impact and improve the social, economic or environmental well-being of communities and improve quality of life’. A project can also be designed to help a community make the most of the opportunities the development of the new power station offers.
More information on the three grant programmes currently available can be found at www.hpcfunds.co.uk including links to guidance and application forms.
Three launch events are being held in Sedgemoor and in West Somerset which are the areas most likely to feel the impact of the development. The next is at Minehead Eye, TA24 5BJ on Thursday 23rd November from 10.30 am to 12.30pm.
